Yes, well……pretty boring to those of you that are not lapbanded. But I wanted to put this on here for my own reference as much as anyone else’s. Plus, I have found it really handy to read other’s blogs and see what they are eating and not eating. I think it helps. I also want to put in here things I experience in the physical sense….like burping!!! So here goes………
** Right from the day after I got home I have walked. Not very far and not very fast for the first week or so!! But I really think walking has helped hasten the healing process and get rid of the post op gas. For the last four days of my first 14 I have started going a bit further and a bit harder. I think one of the walks I do is around the 4km mark and the beach walk with the dogs is around the 2.5kg mark. I hope to extend these in my next two week block on the mushie stage.
MY FIRST WEEK AFTER LAPBAND SURGERY:-
Morning after surgery….17th Oct 08
One small glass of pear and apple juice that the nurse gave me. On the trip home and for the rest of that day I only had sips of water and peppermint tea. I crushed up two Mercyndol Forte when I got home and mixed them into a dose of Gaviscon. I figured if anything was going to give me heartburn it would be tablets….so I decided to take them with the gaviscon and save the trouble! Tasted disgusting….but seemed to work.
This morning I had a Ultra Slim Shake … the little made up ones that you can buy in the chemist or supermarket. I sipped it slowly over about half an hour. I didn’t really feel like anything….but thought I had better have something. Around 2pm I thought I should have something else….so heated up some tomato soup and sipped a small cup of that over about half an hour also. Tonight I have had a bit more of the soup in a small cup. I have tried to keep water into me….but it is hard going! I got a litre bottle and sat it out on the bench and try and sip everytime I think of it. I have drank just a bit over a litre today. I used my bowels this morning and they were quite loose…..I have “let a couple rip” over the day and have not burped at all !! Still feel very bloated and quite sore, but I can tell it is starting to ease off a bit. I have continued to crush and have any pain killers with Gaviscon as I have needed them and have also had a couple of cups of peppermint tea and one cup of coffee with milk.
Also got some vitamins today. They are tablet effervescent ones like Berroccas. The chemist told me to disolve them and let it go “flat” then drink it. She said these were the best in her opinion. I just think I may need some type of supplement for a while? Anyhow, if you are interested they are SUPRADYN. Not very expensive and taste OK. I am going to try and make it a habit of taking one in a small glass of water just before bed each night. I also had one YAKHULT today. Thought the gunk in that might be good for my gut also.
Feeling OK this morning pain wise. Still very annoying though and still very proppy. Water and my tablets when I got up this morning. Coffee no sugar with skim milk. Yakhult drink. I got both kinds of Yakhult to see if I liked them….the Lite one and the normal one. I tried the light one this morning and I can’t taste the difference….so I will buy Lite from now on. Another coffee.
Have got the shakes this morning. Got some bad news re my aunty dying and have heaps going on today…so I think that is not helping. Think I need something to quell the shakes so I have mixed up a Protein drink and am having that now to hopefully settle me down. I am having….. Natures Way, Instant Natural PROTEIN powder in Vanilla. I have mixed it with 250ml of skim milk. You can mix it with water or milk. It is a bit gritty but I don’t mind it….quite palatable.
Went to my parents this morning and up to hospital to visit Aunty. Had 2 more soluble panadol and a jar of baby food, apple & orange puree one for 5-7mth olds!! Very tasty and felt really full after it. Later on I had a Skinny Cow ice-cream, vanilla, on a stick. You buy them in the boxes at supermarket and can get ones on sticks or ones in cups. That was really nice and I enjoyed the flavour!! Back home now (2.40pm) and I am going for a rest before having to go out again tonight. Stomach moving around and grumbling heaps today…but don’t feel at all hungry. Probably just because it is the most I have put into it since operation?
Up and Go banana and honey drink & a small baby food tin of egg custard over the course of the evening.
I was at a family “do” tonight…..they had pizza and lasagne and heaps of jelly cakes and things and I sipped away on the above Up and Go. I think I did really well 🙂 Oh, and no bowel movement today 🙂
Had headache most of night over right eye. Very annoying. Have still got it this morning. Having an Ultraslim Shake for breakfast. Got my litre bottle of water filled up and ready to go sitting on the kitchen bench. Ricky off to work…..first day home alone since banding. Bowel movement again this morning….noice!!
Had my Yahkult…and another coffee. Half cup of mushroom soup at 11am….was feeling a bit hungry. Not anymore…made me feel really full. 1.30pm Half a strawberry snackpack……..half!!!! I cant believe I feel full on HALF a snackpack!!!! Beautiful day today…went for a gentle walk along the foreshore with the dogs for around half an hour. Went with my friend Georgie just in case. Did OK…just a little bit sore towards the end of it. I had the rest of the mushroom soup for tea and a half cup of jelly.
Feeling pretty good this morning. Up early and get Ricky off to work. Today my stomach just feels similar to if I had been doing sit-ups or some form of exercise I am not used to. Although, for some reason, I feel quite tired this morning. Have used bowels already this morning so I don’t think constipation if going to be a problem for me.
Had the Nautres Way Vanilla Protien shake mixed with 250ml of skim milk for breakfast this morning and have had 2 coffees, no sugar, skim milk.
cup pumpkin soup for lunch. 500ml bottle of Vitamin Water during afternoon. Snack pak in the afternoon.
cup of cream of chicken soup for tea with chicken bits strained out. 1 cup of jelly. Have had the runs a bit today and feel quite tired. Also, I have had a touch of hayfever and sneezing all the time has made my stomach sore!!
Had the runs again this morning! Up and Go banana & honey for breakfast. Felt really hungry (or did I?) about 10.30 so I heated up the last of the chicken soup and had that. Now I feel really full !
Little tin of heinz baby food egg custard for lunch. Feeling a bit hungry today….. well, not too sure if I am actually hungry or just yearning for something to chew!! anyhow…. I had a cup of pumpkin soup for afternoon tea. I had one Heinz baby food tin of puree apple for 2 – 4mth olds & cup of jelly for tea tonight.
Also had the usual Yakhult drink and my vitamin drink and try to have as much water as I can manage. Averaging around 1 and a half litres a day.
** Also last night I took two of my pain killers whole. Dr Dreamy said I could….but I have been crushing them anyway. I had a little sip of Gaviscon after swallowing them and I had no problems at all. So I don’t think I will bother crushing them anymore.
Well, it would have been exactly a week at 7pm tonight since my operation! That has gone really fast actually. Up & Go for breakfast along with the vitamin and Yakhult drink.
Vegie soup at lunch and bottle of vitamin water in afternoon. 250ml V8 Fruit & Vegie Juice (apple & plum fusion)…very nice! Have been feeling a bit hungry today….just want to EAT something!!!
OK…over the wanting to eat something phase for the day. Just for a couple of hours or so the last few days I have felt “hungry”…although I don’t think I am……just want to chew! I had tomato soup tonight and a couple of coffees.
PHYSICALLY AT THE END OF MY FIRST WEEK (WHERE DID THAT GO!!?) I AM FEELING PRETTY GOOD. MY STOMACH STILL FEELS A BIT TIGHT AND LARGE BUT THE PAIN IS REALLY NOT A PAIN ANYMORE. FEELS MORE LIKE I HAVE BEEN DOING AN EXERCISE I AM NOT USED TO. A COUPLE OF MY SITES ARE STILL TENDER TO THE TOUCH, PARTICULARLY THE ONE WHERE THE PORT IS. THE OTHERS ARE GETTING ITCHY, WHICH IS A GOOD SIGN OF HEALING. I AM STILL GETTING A LITTLE TIRED IN THE AFTERNOONS BUT THAT IS FADING TOO.
SO, I WILL STILL KEEP MY FOOD DIARY ON HERE AND REPORT ANYTHING “ODD” THAT MAY BE OF INTEREST TO YOU. SO FAR…….SO GOOD!!!
Yakhult & vitamins, pumpkin soup, vitamin water & “normal” water, babyfood custard, chuppa chup, 3x teaspoons of cream cheese (I was at my sister’s house and this is all I could find. Felt a bit shakey and needed something to eat!)
DAY 9 …….
Vitamins, Yakult, heaps of coffee!!! (always drink it with skim milk and no sugar….always have, so no hardship there, strawberry Up & Go, cup of mushroom soup, 1 cup custard, 1 cup of jelly, 1x small drinking yoghurt
Felt hungry today…..well, not really hungry…but wanting to eat something! Physically I feel fantastic and almost back to normal.
The usual coffee & yakhult and vitamins. 1x small tub of yoplait lite yoghurt. (Usually we have long, lazy Sunday breakfasts consisting of maybe 4 slices of toast with butter and jam or slice of ham while we read the Sunday papers!) Small yoghurt drink, cup of chicken soup, cup of pumpkin soup, cup of custard
First day back at work. The usual vitamin and Yakhult drink for breakfast. Felt pretty good until around the 11am mark. Just feel quite “tight” and bloated. Skinny latte on way to work. Skinny latte about 10am. Drinking plenty of water. I think I drink too much coffee!!!! Small lowfat yoghurt & banana smoothie, small V8 fruit & veg juice, cup of tomato soup, jelly & custard (regret having this last one actually….I feel uncomfortably full now!)

I can start mushies today….but because I wasn’t operated on until 7pm in the evening….I guess really my clear “start mushies day” would be tomorrow. I will stick to mostly liquids today and maybe have a thicker soup tonight. I will start my official mushie stage tomorrow.
So this morning…..yakhult, vitamins and tub lowfat yoghurt, Kate Morgan banana meal shake, cup of potato & spinach soup (bit thicker soup than I have had the last two weeks) soft poached egg on 2 tablespoons cottage cheese.
